Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan met with union representatives at the Public Personnel Advisory Board meeting. The loss of income for civil servants and retired civil servants, as well as demands for a flat-rate raise, were at the forefront of the meeting.
During the meeting, which was attended by the chairmen of Memur-Sen and Kamu-Sen, it was emphasized that the losses experienced by retirees due to inflation must be compensated. The unions specifically requested that regulations be made for retired civil servants.
It was reported that Memur-Sen Chairman Ali Yalçın demanded a direct flat-rate raise for the pensions of retired civil servants as part of an "emergency action plan." Yalçın's demands also included raising the pensions of retired civil servants to at least 75 percent of the salary of an active civil servant. It was noted that this level corresponds to approximately 50 thousand TL.
Türkiye Kamu-Sen and Türk Sağlık-Sen Chairman Önder Kahveci also brought the economic bottleneck faced by retirees to the agenda during the meeting. The file presented by Kahveci included demands for additional raises and welfare shares for retirees, as well as the reflection of additional payments made to active employees onto retirement pensions.
Minister Işıkhan, however, did not announce a concrete timeline or promise regarding the demands. Stating that the necessary regulations in the public personnel system would be addressed by taking the views of social partners into account, Işıkhan said, "We attach importance to shaping the necessary regulations in the public personnel system within an understanding of common sense and consultation, taking into account the views and suggestions of social partners."
