Airlines evaluate new seat models to reduce costs
Airlines are considering new seat designs to increase profit margins due to rising costs and competition. Aiming to increase passenger capacity on short-haul flights, companies are evaluating the 'semi-standing travel' concept.
The 'Skyrider 2.0' seat model, developed by the Italian design firm Aviointeriors and resembling a bicycle saddle, allows passengers to travel without sitting fully. This design aims to increase the number of passengers by 20 percent by reducing seat pitch, especially on flights lasting less than 2 hours.
THE ERA OF CHEAP AIR TICKETS
The lightweight and space-saving structure of the new seats provides a cost advantage by reducing cleaning, maintenance, and fuel expenses. It is stated that thanks to this, ticket prices on some flights could be between 1 and 5 euros.
PASSENGER OPINIONS VARY
Following the introduction of the Skyrider 2.0, passenger opinions on this innovation vary. While some passengers welcome the opportunity for affordable travel, others express concerns regarding comfort and safety.
Civil aviation authorities have not yet officially approved this concept. Experts state that uncertainties remain regarding whether this new way of traveling can pass safety tests.
