All eyes on the Palace for the new MTP: The economy's 2026-2028 roadmap is being announced today

The updated Medium-Term Program (MTP), which will contain the targets and policies for the next three years of the Turkish economy, will be announced to the public today. The presentation of the program, which covers the 2026-2028 period, will take place at 11:00 AM at the Presidential Palace.

Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz stated in a post on his social media account that the strategic priorities in the new program have been updated. Yılmaz noted that a stable and predictable policy framework will be maintained during a period of increasing global and regional risks.

The MTP, prepared through the efforts of the Ministry of Treasury and Finance and the Presidency's Strategy and Budget Directorate, serves as a primary reference document for macroeconomic targets and public policies. The program highlights goals regarding the fight against inflation, growth, employment, budget balance, and foreign trade.

TOPICS EXPECTED TO BE HIGHLIGHTED IN THE PROGRAM

The new document is expected to include sections on the structural reform calendar, appropriation proposal ceilings for public administrations, and growth policies. Following the approval of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the program will be published in the Official Gazette and enter into force.

In the current targets, growth was projected at 3.8 percent for 2026, 4.3 percent for 2027, and 5 percent for 2028. Inflation was targeted to decline to 16 percent by the end of 2026, 9 percent in 2027, and 8 percent by the end of the program.

The unemployment rate was planned to be reduced to 8.4 percent in 2026, 8.2 percent in 2027, and 7.8 percent in 2028. On the foreign trade side, exports were projected to reach 282 billion dollars in 2026 and 308.5 billion dollars in 2028, while imports were expected to reach 378 billion dollars and 410.5 billion dollars, respectively, in the same years.

Reducing the ratio of the budget deficit to gross domestic product to 3.5 percent in 2026 and to 2.8 percent by the end of the program period was also among the targets of the current framework. How these targets will be revised will become clear with the updated program to be announced today.
