Allegedly said by Erdoğan: Mehmet Şimşek denies reports of 'open the purse strings'

As the country heads toward local elections, it was alleged that AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek to 'open the purse strings'.

The Center for Combating Disinformation, affiliated with the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, announced that the news in question does not reflect the truth.

In the statement made by the DMM, it was stated, "The conversation alleged to have taken place between our President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister Mehmet Şimşek is completely baseless. Our country's economic management continues its work in line with the Medium-Term Program (MTP) targets and prioritizes budget discipline."

Quoting the DMM's statement, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek also stated that the 'election economy' claims do not reflect the truth.

In his statement, Şimşek included the following remarks;

"Election economy claims do not reflect the truth.

We are determined to meet our budget targets in 2024.

With the strong support of our President, we are resolutely implementing the necessary policies to reach our Program targets."
