Apple removes MetaMask from App Store briefly

The removal of MetaMask from Apple's App Store for a few hours on October 14 has reignited concerns regarding legal challenges related to Big Tech. The Ethereum wallet MetaMask was removed from Apple's application store, the App Store, for a few hours on October 14, raising concerns about it being completely removed from the market.

STATEMENT FROM OFFICIALS

According to a MetaMask spokesperson, the issue is not related to any security incident or malicious activity. The official clarified the matter by stating the following:

“We are aware that MetaMask is currently not available for download from the App Store. This issue has nothing to do with any malicious activity. Our expert team is working diligently to resolve the issue as soon as possible. More importantly, this is not a security issue, and users do not need to make any compromises or take any action. It also has nothing to do with the functionality of the application.”

The reason behind the application's disappearance likely lies in Apple's service policies. According to the market's rules, it does not allow applications to run “unrelated background processes” such as cryptocurrency mining.

According to MetaMask, the removal of the application was only temporary. A spokesperson said, “We anticipate that MetaMask will return to the App Store shortly,” minutes before the application was reopened. They also added that fake MetaMask applications on the App Store should be reported immediately.
