Application to be filed with BRSA: BİM prepares for participation bank
BİM has decided to apply to the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA) for an establishment permit to enter the field of participation banking.
BİM Birleşik Mağazalar AŞ is preparing to initiate the official process to establish a participation bank. In this context, the company announced that it will apply to the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA) for an establishment permit.
Information regarding the matter was conveyed to the public through a statement made by BİM to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP). The statement indicated that the path to be followed for the planned financial subsidiary has been determined.
As a result of the feasibility studies initiated by the company in October 2024 on a digital participation banking model, the evaluations were shaped in favor of establishing a traditional participation bank. It was stated that factors such as the scope of services and operational structure were influential in the decision.
In the statement made by the management, it was noted that a traditional participation bank license offers a wider scope of activity compared to a digital banking license. It was stated that while banking activities are planned to be conducted primarily through digital channels, physical structures would also be possible within the framework of the regulations.
In line with the decision of the BİM Board of Directors dated December 23, 2025, the official application process was initiated within the scope of the Banking Law No. 5411 and related regulations. In this framework, it was decided to apply to the BRSA for an establishment permit as of December 24, 2025, for the participation bank in which the company will hold a majority stake.
The company's statement also shared the information that it aims to evaluate financial services together with the customer network created by its retail activities.
