Asian markets enter Thanksgiving with Wall Street on the rise

Asia-Pacific markets were mixed following Wall Street's broad-based rally heading into the Thanksgiving holiday.

More than half of the stocks traded on the New York Stock Exchange were up on Wednesday. The tech-heavy Nasdaq also saw broader participation, with 62.9% of stocks in the index rising. Small and mid-cap companies outperformed, gaining 0.7% and 0.6% respectively on Wednesday.

In the Asia-Pacific region, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 index continued its losses compared to the previous day, falling 0.39%.

According to Judo Bank's flash estimates, the country saw business activity contract at a faster pace in November. Australia's composite purchasing managers' index fell to 46.4 from 47.6 in October.

In South Korea, the Kospi rose 0.38%, marking its fourth consecutive day of gains, while the small-cap Kosdaq also gained 0.45%.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng index fell 0.3%, while China's CSI 300 index recorded a marginal increase.

Japanese markets are closed for a public holiday.
