Attention all vehicle owners! Does TÜVTÜRK charge a commission on card payments? Official statement released

TÜVTÜRK has issued a press release regarding reports in the media claiming that "TÜVTÜRK charges a credit card commission."

According to the statement, vehicle inspection fees were determined in 2004 in accordance with Article 35 of the Highway Traffic Law No. 2918 and have been adjusted annually since that date based on the Revaluation Rate announced by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance.

Under the concession agreement signed in 2007 between the Privatization Administration, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, and TÜVTÜRK, the fee for vehicle inspection services provided by TÜVTÜRK is collected in cash, with 50 percent of the revenue generated transferred directly to the treasury, and a total of 69 percent of the gross turnover, including other taxes and duties paid, transferred to the relevant public administrations.

On the other hand, due to high demand, the option to pay by credit card as an alternative to cash payments at vehicle inspection stations was introduced as of 2021.

TÜVTÜRK included the following statements in its announcement:

"Payments made by credit card or debit card are processed through a service provider company that offers a one-time payment service to our customers in accordance with Law No. 6493 and relevant legislation, and a 'service fee' is collected from our customers by the service provider company in exchange for the one-time payment service provided. As TÜVTÜRK, we do not collect any additional fees beyond the inspection fee for payments made by debit or credit card, which are offered as an alternative payment method for vehicle inspection fees. Reports in the press claiming that 'TÜVTÜRK charges a commission on payments made by credit card' do not reflect the truth; this is presented for public information."
