Attention mobile phone buyers: 12-month installment limit for mobile phones has changed

Installment limits for mobile phone sales have been reorganized. With the regulation amendment published in the Official Gazette dated October 15, 2026, the price limit for applying 12-month installments on new mobile phones has been increased from 20,000 TL to 40,000 TL.

According to the new regulation, installments of up to 12 months can be made for new mobile phones priced at 40,000 TL and below. For high-end new phones priced above 40,000 TL, the 3-month installment limit will continue to apply.

LIMIT REMOVED FOR REFURBISHED PHONES

One of the most notable aspects of the regulation concerns the sale of refurbished mobile phones. No price limit will be sought for refurbished products; a 12-month installment option will be applicable for all such devices.

This step is expected to support the refurbished phone market and offer consumers a wider range of payment options. For new devices, raising the price threshold will increase the opportunity for installment purchases on mid-segment phones.

The Ministry of Trade announced that there have been no changes to the installment and maturity limits applied to electronic goods, tablets, televisions, household appliances, furniture, vehicles, jewelry, and domestic tourism expenditures.

Authority over installment sales rests with different institutions depending on the type of transaction. The Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) determines the terms for sales made via credit cards, shopping loans, and consumer financing. The Ministry of Trade holds the regulatory authority for installment sales made via promissory notes or directly through businesses.

The Ministry reminded that it has the authority to regulate installment periods and impose additional restrictions on retail businesses, excluding housing sales. It was stated that the relevant legislation will continue to be updated in line with new decisions to be taken by the BDDK.
