Attention property owners: Land regulation has entered into force

The land regulation, which the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has been preparing for a long time and which has been a subject of public debate, has entered into force as of today.

UNCULTIVATED LANDS WILL BE OPENED FOR PRODUCTION

With this regulation, it is aimed to bring agricultural lands across Turkey that have not been cultivated for two consecutive years into the economy. In this context, unused lands can be leased by the state.

According to the information obtained, idle lands have been identified in many provinces, primarily in Antalya, Konya, and Kayseri. On the other hand, lands that were cultivated last year but are not being used this year have been excluded from the scope of the application.

APPLICATION METHODS AND LEASING CONDITIONS

Those who wish to lease their fields will be able to participate in the process through the Agricultural Land Valuation and Acquisition Information System or by applying to provincial directorates. In case of multiple applications, the party offering the highest bid will have priority. If bids are equal, businesses with high agricultural productivity or applicants owning adjacent fields will be preferred.

The lands will be announced on village headman (muhtarlık) notice boards and on the websites of provincial directorates for 7 days. Leases will be made on a seasonal basis. If non-agricultural activities are detected, the contract will be canceled and the rental income will be transferred directly to the landowner. For lands where inheritance distribution has not been completed, the rental fee will be deposited into an account opened at a public bank.

LEASING WITHOUT LANDOWNER CONSENT

According to the new regulation, the owner's consent will not be required for the leasing of agricultural lands that have not been cultivated for two years. The authority for the final decision on this matter has been left to the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.
