Therefore, unfortunately, there are many fakes on the market” drawing attention to the risk of counterfeit products. Jeweler Zafer Yılmaz stated, “Some devices have been produced regarding this issue. We have started to feel comfortable using them” he said.

The touchstone, one of the traditional methods used by jewelers for years, was among the tools used to determine the authenticity of gold. With the new devices, the purity and content of the product can be analyzed in a short time without damaging the gold.

It is reported that the device measures the purity and karat of the gold and displays the result on the screen. Yılmaz explained the convenience provided by the application with the words, “This device tells us exactly whether it is gold or not.”

In counterfeiting, especially plating methods or low-karat products can create differences that are difficult to distinguish with the naked eye. The fact that these devices reveal these differences through technical analysis is considered a factor that increases transaction security for jewelers.

Stating that the systems used make their work easier against counterfeit products, Yılmaz said, “It makes our job easier. I mean, for the jewelry sector, this is a revolution.”
