Attention those with contracts: Watch out for April 1st! Are phone bills going to increase?

Phone bills have increased by 150 percent in the last year. 

The Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) will announce price ceilings on April 1st.

As reported by Sabah, it is expected that operators will increase their new tariff and package prices following the new maximum fee schedule to be announced by the BTK on April 1st.

NEW PRICE HIKES EXPECTED 

While the BTK imposes a ceiling on operators' voice and SMS charges every 6 months, in April and October, through the "Mobile Electronic Communication Services Maximum Fee Schedule" it publishes, free market conditions are applied for internet fees within the framework of the Electronic Communications Law.

For this reason, operators apply the main price hikes to internet packages.

ATTENTION THOSE WITH CONTRACTS!

In October 2023, the BTK, which limited the minute of domestic calls to 2.45 TL and international calls to 24.57 TL, had set the domestic SMS price at 1.75 TL. Now, while an increase in the ceiling prices for voice minutes and SMS is expected on April 1st, those who want to extend their contracts after this date may encounter new, higher-priced packages.

Therefore, those whose contracts are expiring need to sign new tariff and package contracts before April 1st to avoid being affected by the price hikes.
