Banking sector deposits have increased
According to the weekly money and banking statistics released by the Central Bank, the total deposits of the banking sector reached 16 trillion 634.4 billion liras, and the loan volume reached 12 trillion 934 billion liras in the week ending May 24, compared to the previous week.
The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) has released its weekly money and banking statistics.
Accordingly, the total deposits of the banking sector (including interbank) increased by 147 billion 854 million 672 thousand liras in the week ending May 24, reaching 16 trillion 634 billion 353 million 549 thousand liras.
During the same period, Turkish Lira-denominated deposits in banks rose by 1.99 percent to 9 trillion 751 billion 875 million 534 thousand liras, while foreign currency (FX) deposits decreased by 0.91 percent to 6 trillion 145 billion 867 million 831 thousand liras.
Total FX deposits in banks stood at 201 billion 395 million dollars last week, with 170 billion 602 million dollars of this amount held in the accounts of domestic residents.
When considering data adjusted for parity effects, a decrease of 708 million dollars was observed in the total FX deposits of domestic residents as of May 24.
INSTALLMENT COMMERCIAL LOAN VOLUME INCREASED
Consumer loans at deposit banks increased by 1.14 percent last week to 1 trillion 578 billion 944 million 858 thousand liras.
During the same period, installment commercial loans rose by 0.79 percent to 1 trillion 497 billion 347 million 66 thousand liras, while credit card balances increased by 1.57 percent to 1 trillion 868 billion 366 million 743 thousand liras.
Consumer loans at deposit banks consisted of 402 billion 882 million 998 thousand liras in housing loans, 68 billion 901 million 873 thousand liras in vehicle loans, and 1 trillion 107 billion 159 million 987 thousand liras in other loans.
The total loan volume of the banking sector, including the TCMB, also increased by 190 billion 80 million 79 thousand liras in the week ending May 24, rising to 12 trillion 933 billion 975 million 26 thousand liras.
The total loan volume recorded an increase of 46.90 percent compared to the same period last year.
