BDDK data released: 512 thousand more people became millionaires in one year

According to data from the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK), the number of depositors with 1 million TL or more in their accounts has risen from 1 million 79 thousand 399 to 1 million 591 thousand 683 in the last year. Accordingly, 512 thousand 284 more people became millionaires in one year. According to the report by Mehtap Özcan Ertürk from Sözcü, the wealth in the accounts of these millionaires also increased by 42 percent, reaching 11.8 trillion liras from 8.3 trillion liras.

In 12 months, the wealth of millionaires increased by 3.5 trillion liras. Approximately 8 trillion liras of deposits of one million and above consisted of local currency, 3.3 trillion liras of foreign currency deposit accounts, and 497.3 billion liras of precious metal deposit accounts.

Although 'domestic millionaires' represent only 0.91 percent of the total 174.8 million depositors, they hold 70.1 percent of the total money in the system. However, 91.3 percent of the total number of domestic resident depositors in banks have 'up to 10 thousand TL' in their accounts. This segment, which constitutes the majority, holds only 0.75 percent of the total deposit volume of 16.9 trillion liras.
