Behind the scenes: Erdoğan reportedly uncomfortable with Hafize Gaye Erkan following allegations! 'She will have to leave!'
Following allegations that Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan allocated an office and an official vehicle to her father, Erol Erkan, at the bank, it has been claimed that AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is 'uncomfortable.' Furthermore, it is alleged that Erkan will have to leave her post in the near future.
Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan and her father Erol Erkan have become the center of attention following allegations made against them.
It has been claimed that Erol Erkan acted like an unofficial executive at the bank and dismissed an employee named Büşra Bozkurt.
10 Haber columnist Erdal Sağlam wrote in his column that AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is 'uncomfortable' following the allegations that have surfaced.
Stating that the discomfort had already increased following an interview in which Gaye Erkan explained that she could not find a house in Istanbul due to high rents and included remarks such as, "I often ask our building superintendent, Sadık Abi, about the prices. I question him. I say 'they went down.' He says 'they didn't.' He constantly says, 'Prices haven't gone down, if you want, go take a look at the price of onions,'" Sağlam said the following:
"IT HAS BECOME DIFFICULT FOR HER TO REMAIN IN OFFICE"
"It is understood that it has now become very difficult for Central Bank Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan to remain in office. Meanwhile, it is also being discussed that the governor has not been seen since the investor meeting in New York last week and may not have returned from the US.
"IT IS BEING SAID THAT ERDOĞAN IS ALSO UNCOMFORTABLE"
The topic of the last few days in the corridors of the Central Bank is the rumors and expectations that Governor Gaye Erkan will leave soon. It has begun to be widely discussed among staff that President Erdoğan also has discomfort regarding Erkan and that Erkan will have to leave in the near future."
Sağlam stated that following the complaint Bozkurt filed via CİMER, it began to be reported that Erkan's father was constantly interfering in the bank's affairs at the Central Bank offices in Istanbul and Ankara:
"RUMORS HAVE INCREASED SIGNIFICANTLY"
"After this news, things were in complete disarray, and I saw that the rumors had increased significantly. In my inquiries, I witnessed that the discomfort caused by Governor Gaye Erkan and especially her father interfering so much in corporate affairs has reached a peak.
In summary, the issue has created discomfort at the highest level in Ankara. It is very clear that this news deals a blow not only to the governor herself but also to the Central Bank and the program being implemented.
"THE PROBABILITY OF HER SEEING THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR AS GOVERNOR HAS DECREASED"
My personal guess is that even if attempts are made to sweep these issues under the rug until the elections, the probability of Governor Gaye Erkan seeing the second half of the year as governor has decreased significantly. While saying this as a guess, I must also say that there is a possibility that the Presidency might make a decision such as 'let her leave sooner' despite the elections."
