Beware of boiler scams! The same old story every winter: 'The motherboard needs replacing'

Stating that periodic maintenance of boilers must be performed at least once a year, Mehmet Ünlügül, President of the Konya Chamber of Plumbing and Heating Technicians, pointed out that regular maintenance is necessary for boilers and heating systems to operate healthily and have a long service life.

President Ünlügül said, “The efficiency of a boiler and heating system that is not maintained decreases, and its lifespan is shortened. A boiler with reduced efficiency consumes more natural gas and heats your home less. These factors result in high natural gas bills. It is essential that boilers undergo maintenance.

If you have your boiler maintained, both its efficiency increases and its lifespan is extended. Since boilers that undergo maintenance will not constantly break down, they will not cause unexpected expenses. As a result, you will pay less for natural gas and stay warmer,” he said.

BEWARE OF FRAUD!

Mehmet Ünlügül stated that some opportunists call citizens, introducing themselves as 'authorized boiler maintenance services,' or place advertisements on the internet. Reminding that scammers particularly place ads on search engines and social media tools, Ünlügül said, “Complaints regarding high prices for boiler maintenance and parts replacement, unnecessary product replacement, and charging money under the pretext of repairing non-existent faults are increasing, especially during this period.

To avoid such grievances, our consumers who are going to have maintenance done should obtain information from our chamber. It would not be correct to have boiler maintenance done by individuals or persons who are not registered with the chamber. Our consumers should not trust advertisements and phone calls circulating in the virtual environment such as 'let us maintain your boiler at an affordable price' or 'authorized service, affordable price.' Citizens must definitely take possession of any parts that are replaced during boiler maintenance. 

A service maintenance form detailing the procedures performed after boiler maintenance should be requested. One should ask for workplace identification documents from those who introduce themselves as authorized services and must verify that the arriving personnel are registered with our chamber. A service receipt should be obtained for the work performed, and it should be ensured that the procedures are written on the service receipt in full. Maintenance must be performed by companies and experts registered with our chamber,” he said.
