Birleşik Kamu İş Report: Hunger threshold surpasses minimum wage!

According to research conducted by the Birleşik Kamu İş Confederation, the hunger threshold rose to 24,210 TL in February, while the poverty threshold reached 75,342 TL.

Based on these figures, the minimum wage, set at 22,104 TL, continues to remain below the hunger threshold. The increase in food prices also drew attention. In February, price increases in the meat, fish, and egg group reached 123 TL, while dried pulses increased by 17 TL, milk, yogurt, and cheese by 266 TL, and fruit by 103 TL. The only category to show a decrease was vegetables, with prices falling by 252 TL.

Emphasizing that price increases have not stopped even for the most basic food items, Birleşik Kamu İş Confederation President Orhan Yıldırım stated, "The entire burden of the economic policies implemented by the state has been placed on the backs of laborers, farmers, and peasants who earn their living by the sweat of their brow. We do not accept this under any circumstances."

MINIMUM WAGE REMAINS 2,106 TL BELOW THE HUNGER THRESHOLD

In February, the hunger threshold rose by 550 TL compared to December, exceeding the minimum wage by 2,106 TL. Drawing attention to the economic difficulties, Yıldırım said, "The minimum wage determined in January covers 60 to 70 percent of the working population. This shows that millions of workers are trying to survive below the hunger threshold."
