Black mulberry harvest continues in Mersin: Sold for 120 liras per kilogram

In the Silifke district of Mersin, the black mulberry harvest continues in greenhouses, with the fruit being offered for sale at 120 liras. In the district, where air temperatures reach 22 degrees, black mulberry production is carried out under approximately 250 decares of cover, while agricultural workers carefully package the fruits picked from the branches early in the morning.

HARVEST WILL CONTINUE UNTIL THE END OF APRIL

Silifke Chamber of Agriculture President Kemal Gezer stated that the harvest will continue until the end of April and that the black mulberries will be offered to the domestic market as well as exported abroad. Gezer wished the producers a fruitful harvest season.

EXPORT AND GOOD NEWS FROM PRODUCERS

Producer Erdoğan Metin, who is harvesting in his greenhouse in Atik Neighborhood, said that he obtained an average of 60 kilograms of product from 100 trees and that the harvest, which began on March 1, will be completed in the first week of April. Metin stated that product quality has increased with the improvement of weather conditions in recent days and that they are exporting their products to Dubai.

Another producer, Ayşe Çağıl, stated that they are harvesting the black mulberries that have ripened in her 3-decare greenhouse and that they take great care to ensure the fruits are not damaged while being picked.

Black mulberries collected from the fertile greenhouses of Silifke are transported by pickup trucks to the Atayurt Wholesale Market and offered to the market. Ayşe Çağıl also explained that they are harvesting the black mulberries that have ripened in her 3-decare greenhouse and that they take care to ensure the fruits are not damaged while being picked.
