Bread price hike in Erdoğan's hometown
In Rize, the hometown of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the price of bread has been set at 20 TL due to rising costs.
In Rize, 270 grams of bread will be sold for 20 TL starting today. The Rize Bakers' Chamber stated that the increase in expenses such as flour, yeast, energy, and labor made a price adjustment necessary.
The Bakers' Chamber announced that there has been a 35 percent increase in costs since July 2024, necessitating the adjustment in bread prices.
The statement included the following: "Representatives from the Provincial Directorate of Trade, the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, and the Rize Municipality, representing the Rize Governorship, did not attend the Bread Price Determination Commission meeting held at the Rize Union of Chambers of Tradesmen and Craftsmen on 07.08.2025 at 13:30. The decision to sell 270 grams of bread for 20 TL was taken by the Union of Chambers of Tradesmen and Craftsmen and the other members serving on the commission. Announced to the public."
