Bread system for simit prices: Ministry of Trade approval made mandatory

Just as with bread prices, the approval of the Ministry of Trade has been made mandatory for simit price tariffs.

If the Ministry provides a negative opinion on the prepared tariff, the new tariff request, along with its justifications, will enter into force after the Ministry's opinion is obtained once again.

The details of the regulation amendment published in the Official Gazette are as follows:

“Tariffs enter into force with the proposal of the board of directors and the approval of the assembly. The opinion of the relevant professional committee is obtained in the determination of tariffs. The professional committee must submit its opinion within fifteen days at the latest. However, at the stage of determining the tariff for simit and the bread defined in subparagraph (e) of the first paragraph of Article 4 of the Turkish Food Codex Bread and Bread Varieties Communiqué published in the Official Gazette dated 4/1/2012 and numbered 28163, the board of directors shall obtain the evaluation of a committee consisting of the Provincial Director of Trade, the Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, and representatives of the union of chambers of tradesmen and craftsmen, the chamber regulating the tariff, and the relevant municipality within fifteen days. The proposal regarding the bread tariff, created by the board of directors by taking into account the evaluation of the committee and the opinion of the relevant professional committee, is submitted to the approval of the assembly at the first meeting to be held after obtaining the positive opinion of the Ministry of Trade. However, in the event that a negative opinion is expressed by the Ministry, the new tariff request prepared by the board of directors with its justifications, without the need for the committee to convene, is submitted to the approval of the assembly after the Ministry's opinion is obtained again.”
