Carboy water prices also hit by price hikes: 1 glass of water is nearly 1 lira!
With the latest price hikes, the price of carboy water for some brands has reached 100 lira. The cost of a single glass of water from a 19-liter carboy has risen to nearly 1 TL.
While prices for basic food products are falling globally, they continue to rise day by day in Turkey.
Successive price hikes have now extended to carboy water. With the recent increases, prices have nearly doubled in a year. The price of carboy water for some brands has reached nearly 100 lira.
According to a report by Sayime Başçı from Sözcü, when calculating that approximately 95 glasses of water are obtained from a 19-liter carboy, the price of a single glass of water has risen to nearly 1 TL. Looking at another brand commonly used by the public, prices have reached 99.90 TL. A carboy from a brand that cost 74 TL in May 2023 has reached 96 TL in one year with a 29 percent increase. The price range in the sector generally varies between 85 TL and 100 TL.
If an average of 5 carboys of water are consumed monthly, a family's drinking water expense alone has reached 500 TL. The price of a 19-liter carboy of water from a brand sold in glass packaging was 39.5 TL at the end of 2022, and rose to 43 TL at the beginning of 2023 with an 8.8 percent increase. The same brand's product, which rose to 48.5 TL during the year, reached 77 TL by the end of the year. The price of a 19-liter carboy of water, which was sold for 48.5 TL in May of last year, rose to 95 TL in May 2024 with a 95.8 percent increase.
