Card payments hit a record in August
In August 2025, card payments increased by 51 percent compared to last year, reaching 2.15 trillion TL. The rise in internet and contactless payments was notable.
A significant increase in card payments was recorded in Turkey in August 2025. According to data from the Interbank Card Center, the total payment amount made with credit, debit, and prepaid cards reached 2.15 trillion TL, an increase of 51 percent compared to the same period last year. During this period, 1.81 trillion TL was paid with credit cards, 319.2 billion TL with debit cards, and 13.1 billion TL with prepaid cards.
An increase was also observed in the number of cards; the number of credit cards reached 138 million, debit cards 216.6 million, and prepaid cards 105.5 million. The total number of cards rose to 460.1 million, showing a 10 percent increase.
Card payments made over the internet rose by 58 percent to 654.3 billion TL. The number of internet payments increased by 4 percent to 226.6 million. Contactless payments also stood out in in-store transactions; the number of contactless payments increased by 15 percent to 1.22 billion, and the contactless payment amount reached 730.3 billion TL, an increase of 59 percent. These data show that 81 percent of in-store payments were made contactlessly.
