Flash allegations regarding CBRT Governor Erkan! Facility closed under pretext of renovation and allocated to family

While allegations regarding Erol Erkan, the father of Central Bank (CBRT) Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan, continue to be debated in the public eye, new claims have emerged regarding the Erkan family.

According to the new allegations, the Erkan family is using the CBRT Social Facility and the İzmir camp for their private use. It is also alleged that the mother, Gamze Erkan, gives instructions to the staff.

Speaking to Pelin Ünker from DW Turkish, a bank official claimed that the CBRT Social Facility in Ankara was closed on the instructions of Hafize Gaye Erkan under the pretext of renovations, and that the cooks and waiters working there were assigned entirely to the service of the Governor and her family.

Explaining that the facility had already undergone comprehensive renovations during the pandemic and was serving bank employees and retirees, the official stated, "The real reason for closing this place is that the cooks and waiters working here have been assigned entirely to the service of the Governor and her family."

"ALLOCATED TO THE FAMILY"

According to the claims of the CBRT official, Governor Erkan and her family are also using the camp in Özdere, İzmir, which was closed to staff in 2023 due to the earthquake, for their own private use.

The official also alleges that some of the cooks and waiters working there were forcibly reassigned to Istanbul and Ankara.

According to the allegations conveyed by the CBRT official, not only the Central Bank Governor's father but also her mother, Gamze Erkan, is frequently present at the bank to look after the child and gives instructions to bank employees despite having no authority to do so.

ALLEGATIONS OF "PSYCHOLOGICAL VIOLENCE AND MOBBING"

The official confirmed that the information regarding Erol Erkan, the father of Hafize Gaye Erkan, being allocated an official vehicle and an office was also true, stating, "Although he has no official position at the Bank, Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan's father, Erol Erkan, interferes in the work of many administrative units, especially the Bank's Private Office, Support Services, and Human Resources, receives information from the heads of these units, and gives them direct instructions. In particular, severe psychological violence and mobbing are applied to the cooks, waiters, and cleaning staff working on the Governor's floor."

"DEPUTY GOVERNORS IGNORE IT"

Stating that the staff working on the Governor's floor are constantly reassigned between Istanbul and Ankara, disregarding their family integrity, and that employees are arbitrarily kept at the bank until the morning hours for overtime, the official said, "Special meals are prepared at the bank separately and at different times for the Governor's child, mother, and father. Governor Erkan's mother is also usually at the bank to look after the child, and she also gives instructions to bank employees. The Deputy Governors to whom these units report do not speak up about all these unlawful practices and choose to ignore them."

HAD COME TO THE AGENDA WITH A CİMER COMPLAINT

The allegations, which have been discussed in the economic bureaucracy for the last month and a half, came to the public's attention when Central Bank employee Büşra Bozkurt filed a complaint with the Presidency's Communication Center (CİMER), alleging that she was dismissed by Erol Erkan, the father of Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan.

It was alleged that Erol Erkan was unofficially brought into a managerial position at the bank and was authorized in matters such as hiring, firing, and the appointment of personnel. According to the report, the complainant Bozkurt alleged in her application to CİMER on January 5, 2024, that an office, security detail, and an official vehicle were allocated to Father Erkan at the bank.

In December, allegations that Erkan's interview with Hürriyet was arranged by an agency that handles PR work for the AKP, and that the organization was carried out by Gaye Erkan's father, were reflected in the economic press.

Central Bank Governor Erkan, in an interview she gave to Ahmet Hakan of Hürriyet Newspaper some time ago, responded to a question about rents by saying, "Is Istanbul more expensive than Manhattan? We couldn't find a house in Istanbul. It's terribly expensive. We settled in with my parents, we are staying with them." The content of the interview in question was evaluated as a communication error in economic circles.

There has been no statement from Central Bank Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan to the public regarding the allegations in question.
