Central Bank reserves fell in the first week of the new year
The total reserves of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey decreased by 4.8 billion dollars in the first week of the new year, falling to 189.1 billion dollars.
The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) has announced its reserve data for the week ending January 2, 2026. According to the data, the Central Bank's total gross reserves decreased significantly compared to the previous week. Reserves, which stood at 193.9 billion dollars, fell to 189.1 billion dollars with a decline of 4.8 billion dollars.
The downward trend in net international reserves also continued. This figure, which was recorded at 79.8 billion dollars the previous week, fell by 2.9 billion dollars as of last week to 76.9 billion dollars.
A larger decrease was observed in net reserves excluding swap transactions, a figure closely monitored by experts. Net reserves excluding swaps, which were 67.5 billion dollars, decreased by 4.9 billion dollars within one week to 62.6 billion dollars.
In economic circles, these latest developments in reserves are being closely monitored in terms of liquidity and foreign exchange balance; however, officials have not provided a detailed explanation regarding the reasons for these declines in the first week of the year.
