Central Bank to announce first interest rate decision of the year today: What are the economists' expectations?

Central Bank to announce first interest rate decision of the year today: What are the economists' expectations?

The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) will meet today under the chairmanship of Fatih Karahan.

The first interest rate decision of the year, which the markets have their eyes and ears on, will be announced at 14:00.

MARKET INTEREST RATE FORECAST

Economists anticipate that the Central Bank will cut the policy rate. Experts participating in the Anadolu Agency (AA) Finance expectation survey are of the opinion that the interest rate will be reduced to 36.5 percent with a 150 basis point cut.

46 economists participated in the survey conducted by AA Finance regarding the MPC meeting to be held on Thursday, January 22. Of those who participated in the survey, 3 stated that they expect a 100 basis point cut, 42 expected a 150 basis point cut, and 1 expected a 200 basis point cut.

LAST MONTH'S DECISION RECALLED

The median of the expectations for January was formed in the direction of the policy rate being reduced by 150 basis points to 36.5 percent. The median of the economists' year-end policy rate forecasts was calculated as 28 percent.

At the last MPC meeting held in December, the policy rate was reduced by 150 basis points to 38 percent.
