CHP's Gürer asked: Mehmet Şimşek announced the number of taxpayers whose debts were written off

Republican People's Party (CHP) Niğde Deputy Ömer Fethi Gürer asked the Ministry of Treasury and Finance for the number of taxpayers who had debts of 2 thousand TL or less before January 1, 2023, and whose debts were written off.

Responding to Gürer's motion, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek stated that 4 billion 20 million 616 thousand 614.70 TL in debt belonging to 6 million 818 thousand 285 taxpayers has been written off.

"THE INCREASE IN ENFORCEMENT FILES CONTINUES"

Noting that while debt write-offs are a practice aimed at reducing the number of files in enforcement offices, the problem has not been resolved by writing off debts, Gürer pointed to the increase in the number of enforcement files across Turkey, stating, "The number of files submitted to enforcement offices this year has reached 4 million 937 thousand 971. Despite the fact that the debts of 6 million 818 thousand 285 people have been written off, the increase in enforcement files continues."

Stating that there has been a significant increase in the number of enforcement files in the last week, Gürer said, "In this short period, the number of enforcement files has increased by 111 thousand 986 new files. This situation appears as an indicator of the negative effects of the economic crisis in Turkey and the economic policies of the AKP government on citizens."

Gürer stated that the ongoing economic crisis and the AKP government's forcing of citizens into debt have led many citizens to face enforcement proceedings as a result of their inability to pay their debts due to insufficient income.
