CHP issues urgent call to AKP for minimum wage increase
CHP's Gamze Taşçıer, who called for an urgent raise in the minimum wage, stated, "All salaries that have melted against inflation must be revised immediately."
As citizens struggle with the cost of living due to high inflation and rising prices, all eyes have turned to the 2025 minimum wage increase.
Minimum wage earners, who did not receive an additional raise in 2024, are expecting the gap to be closed with the 2025 increase.
Republican People's Party (CHP) Deputy Chairperson Gamze Taşçıer made a statement regarding the minimum wage, to which millions of citizens have turned their attention.
In her written statement, Taşçıer emphasized that the hunger threshold in Turkey has increased by 6 thousand 485 liras in the last year, reaching 21 thousand liras in September.
Stating that the hunger threshold for a family of four has risen 4 thousand liras above the minimum wage, Taşçıer said the following:
"Which macroeconomic balance can justify the public living below the hunger threshold? With what purchasing power can you raise salaries that remain 4 thousand liras below the hunger threshold? The government has no answer to these questions because its minimum wage policy is a complete fiasco.
While the living conditions of workers, laborers, and low-income earners in Turkey are becoming increasingly difficult, the government's attitude has turned the meeting of basic needs for millions into a luxury consumption that has become impossible. It is the government's primary duty to return the purchasing power stolen from the pockets of the people.
An urgent raise must be made to the minimum wage. The government's stalling tactics must end, and the crushing of our workers and low-income citizens below the hunger threshold must stop."
Pointing out that all salaries that have melted against inflation must be revised immediately, Taşçıer said, "The unjust tax burdens placed on the backs of laborers under the name of macroeconomic balance must be removed immediately."
