CHP reacts to AKP's 'Cumhur Aisle' application in supermarkets: 'A showcase of the government's failure'
A 'Cumhur Aisle' (People's Aisle) application, which will feature state-guaranteed and fixed-price products, is set to begin in major supermarket chains across Turkey. While reactions have come from the CHP, it is claimed that the project is a showcase policy aimed at saving the day.
The “Cumhur Aisle” application is being implemented in major supermarkets with more than 55 thousand branches across Turkey. In these areas, products with fixed prices and state guarantees will be offered to consumers. Products will be supplied from a single center with a pricing policy close to cost.
GOAL IS TO INCREASE ACCESS TO BASIC FOOD
According to the report by Yeni Şafak, which is close to the government, the new model aims to make basic food items more accessible by creating more affordable areas for certain products in chain supermarkets. Product prices in the aisle will be the same across the country and will be sold with “state-guaranteed” labels.
ALL PRODUCTS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED FROM A SINGLE CENTER
Within the scope of the project, state warehouses will be established in metropolitan cities and other regions. Supermarkets, market tradesmen, and catering companies will supply products from these warehouses. Thus, the intermediary chain will be eliminated, and products will be offered for sale at prices close to cost. It is planned to lower prices further with state subsidies if necessary.
FIRST REACTION FROM CHP
CHP Deputy Chairman Burhanettin Bulut made harsh criticisms regarding the application. In a statement on his social media account, he stated that the project is a move aimed at saving the day:
"The government, which privatized Turkey's factories one by one for years by saying 'Does the state sell fabric?', is trying to solve the economic impasse it created itself today with the 'Cumhur Aisle'. It is announced that state-labeled, fixed-price products will be sold in 10-15 percent of chain supermarkets. The price of the wrong policies implemented for years is returning as a heavy burden on both the producer and the consumer. Agricultural Credit cooperatives, price regulation tents, and now the 'Cumhur Aisle'... They are all moves to save the day... The government, which cannot save the citizen from being crushed by inflation, is actually stalling with showcase policies that are a confession of its own failure. What really needs to be done is very simple: Support the producer directly, reduce the farmer's costs, and make agricultural production sustainable!"

DENIAL FROM DMM
The DMM (Center for Combating Disinformation) denied the pro-government media's report on the Cumhur Aisle.
