While rising rents remain a hot topic in Turkey, the 54th Civil Chamber of the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice has issued a precedent-setting decision regarding the regulation that limits rent increases in residential properties to 25 percent, which was implemented to curb exorbitant rent hikes.

According to the report by Milliyet;

Mediator and Lawyer Umut Metin, who provided statements on the subject, shared the following:

“Actually, the decision here is not related to the 25 percent limit. There is a situation where a different decision is being made.

In rent determination lawsuits, a lawsuit for the determination of the rental price can be filed regarding rental agreements after 5 years.

In these lawsuits, the condition of the leased property and comparable rental prices are taken into consideration.
