Credit card spending announced: Highest spending in supermarkets and shopping malls
According to data from the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT), transactions made with bank and credit cards reached 10 trillion 627.3 billion liras in the January-September period of 2024. The sector with the highest spending was supermarkets and shopping malls, with 1 trillion 863.2 billion liras spent in this category. Miscellaneous food expenditures were recorded at 742.4 billion liras, while clothing and accessory expenditures amounted to 739.9 billion liras.
According to information compiled from data by the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT), the total amount of transactions made with bank and credit cards across Türkiye reached 10 trillion 627.3 billion liras in the January-September period of 2024.
When the sectoral distribution of payments made with bank and credit cards is examined, the highest spending was in the supermarket and shopping mall category, with 1 trillion 863.2 billion liras.
The miscellaneous food category ranked second with 742.4 billion liras, followed by clothing and accessories with 739.9 billion liras.
695 BILLION LIRAS IN PAYMENTS IN THE SERVICE SECTORS CATEGORY
During the period in question, 710.5 billion liras were paid for electrical and electronic goods, and 695.4 billion liras were paid in the service sectors category using bank and credit cards.
In this period, 663.9 billion liras were paid at gas and fuel stations using bank and credit cards, while dining expenditures amounted to 629.7 billion liras and other payments totaled 555.2 billion liras.
Between January and September, insurance payments were 506.1 billion liras, public/tax payments were 462.6 billion liras, and payments for vehicle rental-sales, service, and spare parts were 431.6 billion liras.
In the same period, 409.9 billion liras were paid for construction materials, hardware, and ironmongery, while 375.3 billion liras were spent on health, health products, and cosmetics; 307.1 billion liras on education, stationery, and office supplies; and 297.3 billion liras on furniture and decoration via card payments.
Additionally, 246.1 billion liras were paid for travel agencies and transportation, 235 billion liras for airline transactions, and 151 billion liras for contractor services using bank and credit cards.
The spending amounts made with bank and credit cards are as follows:
Jewelers 174.6 billion,
Accommodation payments 173.7 billion,
Telecommunications payments 105.4 billion,
Individual pension payments 51.3 billion,
Car rental payments 37 billion,
Club, association, and social services payments 34.6 billion
Direct marketing payments were listed as 15.8 billion liras.
During this period, 3 trillion 91 billion liras of the shopping done with bank and credit cards was conducted over the internet.
The share of online spending in the total was calculated at 29 percent.
In the first 9 months of the year, shopping done via mail and telephone amounted to 504.5 billion liras, and customs duty payments were 13.4 billion liras.
