Criticism of public banks from IMM Urban Planning Group President Ali Kurt regarding loans!
IMM Urban Planning Group President Ali Kurt stated, "If we are caught in an earthquake in Istanbul with this building stock, there will be neither public banks nor anything else left."
Appearing as a guest on the program "12'den" with Tuncay Mollaveisoğlu, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Urban Planning Group President Ali Kurt said, "Istanbul's building stock is sounding the alarm! An earthquake is at the door, but sufficient steps are still not being taken!"
Stating that earthquakes and earthquake preparedness should be the most important agenda item, Kurt pointed out that according to the Minister of Environment's statement, there are 600 thousand risky residential structures in Istanbul.
Stating that the vast majority of citizens living in risky structures are low-income individuals and retirees, Kurt emphasized that within the scope of the "Istanbul is Renewing" project, public banks are not providing housing loans for urban transformation projects, even though KİPTAŞ acts as a guarantor so that citizens can use loans for urban transformation.
Ali Kurt expressed his reaction with the words, "If we are caught in an earthquake in Istanbul with this building stock, there will be neither public banks nor anything else left."
'COME AND OFFER THIS TO CITIZENS LIVING IN RISKY STRUCTURES'
Stating that a 100-square-meter residence is renewed for an average of 3 million liras, Kurt reported that the IMM provides 1 million 950 thousand liras of this amount to low-income families through a financial support project.
Stating that the remaining 1 million 50 thousand liras amounts to 43 thousand 750 liras per month over 24 months, Kurt said, "We offer the opportunity to use loans from banks, and KİPTAŞ acts as a guarantor. In that case, the amount that needs to be paid is 31 thousand TL. Our Metropolitan Mayor and I say this on every platform; public banks must be involved in the process for low-income citizens. Because public banks have the ability to offer advantageous financing options for public projects. Public banks are not becoming stakeholders in this process. You have a very serious inventory. There is a consensus; come and offer this to the citizens living in risky structures in Istanbul."
