Date for the hidden price hike set: State support for electricity reduced, bills to skyrocket

The Ministry of Energy had been providing state support for household electricity consumption up to a certain kilowatt-hour limit through a practice initiated in 2018. For 2025, this limit had been set at 5,000 kilowatt-hours. However, with a decision taken on October 31, this limit was reduced to 4,000 kilowatt-hours.

NEW PRACTICE TO TAKE EFFECT ON JANUARY 1

According to a report by Korkusuz, starting January 1, state support will not be provided for consumption exceeding 4,000 kilowatt-hours annually, or 333 kilowatt-hours monthly. This change will lead to a significant increase in electricity bills. For example, a bill that was 980 liras with state support could rise to 1,955 liras under the new regulation. This situation will affect millions of households because the set monthly limit of 333 kilowatt-hours is insufficient to meet the basic electricity needs of many homes.
