A decision has been made to increase the price of bread in İzmir. The 200-gram loaf, which has been sold for 15 TL in the city for some time, will rise to 17.50 TL starting April 1, 2026.
Bakers had long been reiterating their demand for a new price determination due to the increase in costs. İzmir Bakers Chamber President Kemal Sırtı recalled that they had submitted a price hike application in December 2025, stating that they had requested an increase in the weight of the bread to be sold for 20 TL, but that an agreement was reached on a new price of 17.5 TL for 200 grams.
Sırtı stated, “We requested to increase the weight of the bread and have it be 20 TL, but we agreed on 17.5 TL for 200 grams. This has been a lifeline for the sector.”
