Decision on 'over 65' public transport in Muğla

Muğla Metropolitan Municipality has decided to make public transport free for those over 65.

According to the decision, Muğla Metropolitan Municipality will cover the difference arising from free transport from its own budget to ensure that neither the drivers nor the public transport users are disadvantaged.

The following statement was made by the Muğla Metropolitan Municipality:

“In many parts of our country, both drivers and our citizens are experiencing difficulties regarding free transport. Our drivers have informed us that the payment made by the Ministry does not cover the cost of free transport, while our citizens have reported facing various challenges regarding free boarding. Our Muğla Metropolitan Mayor, Dr. Osman Gürün, who has been addressing this issue with sensitivity, has found a solution that does not disadvantage either the drivers or the citizens. With the decision to be implemented, we will determine the number of free passengers carried by buses during the month in line with the boarding reports we receive through the electronic fare collection system. Following this determination, the amount remaining after deducting the payment made by the Ministry will be paid to the vehicle owners by our municipality. In line with this study, which covers 1,359 buses, we will ensure that our citizens can use their right to free travel more comfortably through the payment we will make based on the unit price calculated over the revenue, and we will implement an exemplary project for our country by compensating for the financial losses of our drivers.”
