Decline in FX-Protected Deposits continues
While credit volume in the banking sector expanded, a significant decline was recorded in Foreign Currency-Protected Deposit (KKM) accounts.
According to weekly data published by the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK), the total credit volume of the banking sector rose by 72 billion 781 million liras during the week of 18 July, reaching 19 trillion 766 billion 991 million liras. Over the same period, total deposits held by banks increased by 248 billion 99 million liras to 23 trillion 336 billion 1 million liras.
Consumer loans declined by 7 billion 360 million liras as of 18 July, falling to 2 trillion 390 billion 654 million liras. Of these loans, 588 billion 928 million liras consisted of housing loans, 57 billion 64 million liras of vehicle loans, and 1 trillion 744 billion 662 million liras of personal finance loans. Instalment-based commercial loans, meanwhile, rose by 19 billion 393 million liras to 2 trillion 904 billion 235 million liras.
Individual credit card receivables fell by 0.9 percent to 2 trillion 240 billion 758 million liras. Of these receivables, 771 billion 994 million liras consisted of instalment-based debt, while 1 trillion 468 billion 764 million liras were non-instalment debt.
Non-performing loans in the banking sector increased by 3 billion 969 million liras as of 18 July, reaching 441 billion 310 million liras. Specific provisions of 319 billion 718 million liras were set aside against these receivables. Over the same period, the statutory equity of the banking system rose by 36 billion 251 million liras to 4 trillion 60 billion 282 million liras.
Foreign Currency-Protected Deposit (KKM) accounts fell by 15 billion 159 million liras last week to 506 billion 451 million liras. With this decline, KKM's share of total deposits was recorded at 2.17 percent.
