Disappointing news for EYT retirees regarding the increased holiday bonus

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced today that the holiday bonus for retirees has been set at 3,000 TL. A clause regarding this purpose was added to the judicial package submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) today.

The legal regulation will be implemented before the Parliament pauses its work due to the local elections.

According to a report by HaberTürk, EYT (Retirement at Age) beneficiaries who submit their retirement petitions by March 31, 2024, as well as other insured individuals who qualify for retirement without the EYT regulation, will benefit from the increased bonus during the Ramadan Feast. Those who submit their retirement petitions after April 1 will not be able to receive the bonus during this year's Ramadan Feast.

The Feast of Sacrifice falls in June this year. EYT beneficiaries who submit their retirement petitions between April 1 and May 31 will also benefit from the increased bonus during the Feast of Sacrifice.

The number of people receiving a retirement pension from the Social Security Institution (SGK) has reached 15.1 million on a file basis. Accordingly, approximately 90 billion liras in retirement bonuses will be paid this year, with 45 billion liras for each of the two feasts.

HOW MUCH BONUS WILL A SURVIVING SPOUSE RECEIVE?

Retiree holiday bonus payments are made on a file basis. A bonus of 3,000 liras will be paid per file. Those receiving a widow's or orphan's pension due to a deceased spouse or parent receive the holiday bonus in proportion to their share. A spouse who has been granted a widow's pension at a rate of 50 percent of the deceased spouse's retirement pension will be paid 1,500 liras; a daughter who has been granted 25 percent will be paid 750 liras. Those who do not work in any job and do not receive income or a pension due to their own insurance status, and who are receiving 75 percent of their spouse's pension, will be given a 2,000 lira bonus.

Those receiving a permanent incapacity income due to a work accident or occupational disease are paid a holiday bonus in proportion to the permanent incapacity rate that forms the basis for the income grant. Those with a 25 percent loss of earning capacity in their profession will be paid 750 liras, and those with 45 percent will be paid 1,350 liras.

BASED ON THE FILE THEY ARE ENTITLED TO

Retirees and beneficiaries receiving income and pensions from more than one file from the SGK will be given a bonus based on the file for which they are entitled to the highest payment. For example, if a person receives both a retirement pension due to their own work and a widow's pension due to their deceased spouse, they will only receive a 3,000 lira bonus due to their own retirement. If a woman receives both a widow's pension and an orphan's pension, she will be able to receive a single bonus based on the rate in the file from which she receives the highest pension.

Those who receive a permanent incapacity income along with a retirement pension will only receive a 3,000 lira bonus due to their retirement.

In the event that a retiree or beneficiary passes away within the month of April but before the feast, the beneficiaries will be able to receive the holiday bonus.
