DİSK President Çerkezoğlu: A 25 percent raise to the minimum wage is ruthless
While various estimates are being put forward regarding the rate of the upcoming minimum wage hike, DİSK President Arzu Çerkezoğlu stated, "In a country where even the suppressed official inflation figures of TUIK are approaching 50 percent, saying that I will increase the minimum wage by 25 percent is, to put it mildly, ruthless."
Emphasizing that the minimum wage should be determined as a living wage that allows a worker to support their family, Çerkezoğlu said, "In a country where even the suppressed official inflation figures of TUIK are approaching 50 percent, saying that I will increase the minimum wage by 25 percent is, to put it mildly, ruthless. It means condemning millions to hunger and poverty" she stated.
According to ANKA's report, Çerkezoğlu emphasized that such a rate is unacceptable, adding, "As DİSK, we will continue to fight, starting from workplaces and moving to the streets and squares."
