Do this for a lower natural gas bill: Turn off the radiators in rooms you don't use

With nighttime temperatures dropping below zero, citizens looking to ease their natural gas bills have started searching for ways to save.

Experts have offered advice such as turning off the boiler during the day on sunny days, using a thermostat for heat balance, and turning off or lowering the settings on unused rooms and radiators close to the boiler to achieve lower bills.

"THERE ARE THOSE WHO SAY THE BILL COMES IN HIGHER WHEN WE TURN IT ON AND OFF"

Boiler technician Şahismail Gültepe stated that in homes with thermal insulation, boiler temperature settings should be adjusted slightly lower.

Expressing that the decision to run the boiler during the day should be based on the air temperature, Gültepe said, “If the house gets sun during the day, the boiler should be turned off. It should then be turned back on in the evening. There are those who say that the natural gas bill comes in higher when we turn it on and off. However, there is no need to turn it on during the day in this weather. In Van, nighttime temperatures drop below zero. Depending on the insulation and heating status of the house, it should be set to 40-45 degrees in the evenings. Homes without insulation are very difficult to heat,” he said.

"TURN OFF THE RADIATORS IN ROOMS YOU DON'T USE"

Recommending that radiators in unused rooms be turned off to save money, Gültepe said, “Boiler and radiator maintenance is very important for saving on the bill. Women turn on the hot water even to wash a few dishes. Constantly turning the tap on and off in this way is a major burden,” he said.

Advising that the radiator closest to the boiler be turned off or its temperature setting lowered, Gültepe noted that in this case, the other radiators in the house would heat more evenly and the situation would be reflected positively on the bill.
