Economic crisis threatens family structure! Worrying increase in enforcement files

CHP Mersin Deputy Gülcan Kış announced that economic hardships are pushing citizens into further debt and that enforcement files have reached record levels. Stating that the economic crisis is negatively affecting the social fabric, Kış said, "Marriage incentives alone are not enough to ensure happiness; it is necessary to increase the welfare level of the public."

Pointing out that divorce rates are rising while marriage rates are falling in Turkey, Kış stated that the number of divorcing couples increased by 8.1% in 2024 to reach 187 thousand 343, while the number of marrying couples increased by only 0.2% to 568 thousand 395. Kış emphasized that economic conditions are putting a strain on marriages.

Stating that citizens' debts to banks and financial institutions have decreased to 4 trillion 127 billion liras, but the total debt has reached 4 trillion 259 billion liras, Kış criticized the government's economic policies, saying, "The citizen is in debt, dependent on credit cards. A peaceful family life cannot be expected from people who cannot make ends meet."

Stating that the number of new files arriving at enforcement offices in the first two months of 2025 increased by 6.9% to reach 1 million 743 thousand, Kış said that the total number of enforcement files has risen to 22 million 605 thousand. She criticized the government by saying, "While citizens in a debt trap are dealing with enforcement proceedings, the government is painting a rosy picture."

Reminding that according to the United Nations' 2024 World Happiness Report, Turkey ranks 98th among 143 countries, Kış stated that the economic crisis affects every area of life. "Debt, enforcement, inflation, unemployment; these are the public's agenda," she said.

Touching on the differences in inflation data between TÜİK and ENAG, Kış said that TÜİK's data does not match the realities experienced by the public. Questioning the institution's reliability, she said, "TÜİK's distorted data cannot extinguish the fire in the public's pockets."

Also criticizing President Erdoğan's marriage incentive policies, Kış said, "Young people are trying to establish a home while in a debt trap. The real solution is a fair income distribution and a sound economic policy." Stating that the family structure of citizens struggling with the economic crisis is under threat, Kış expressed that the government must listen to the real problems of the people.
