Economic management and AKP officials meet for additional pension hike: What figures are on the table?
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, AKP Deputy Chairman Mustafa Elitaş, and AKP Group Deputy Chairman Abdullah Güler will hold a meeting at the Palace today to discuss the lowest pension amount.
With the announcement of June inflation based on TÜİK's controversial data, the 6-month inflation rate reached 24.73 percent. Thus, the pension increase was finalized. However, according to the 24.73 percent hike, retirees with a base salary of 8 thousand or less will receive no raise at all.
Despite 2024 being declared the Year of Retirees, millions of retirees have been condemned to poverty-level wages.
Following public backlash, the AKP and the economic management team will meet to discuss the lowest pension amount.
In this regard, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, AKP Deputy Chairman Mustafa Elitaş, and AKP Group Deputy Chairman Abdullah Güler will come together.
According to the Türkiye newspaper, known for its proximity to the government, AKP officials state, "A flat-rate raise for retirees does not seem possible; currently, there is only work being done on raising the lowest pension of 10 thousand TL."
However, there is an expectation that the lowest pension will be set between 12 thousand and 12 thousand 500 liras.
