Erdoğan said 'make discounts', Tarım Kredi products received price hikes

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's request for chain markets to support the fight against inflation for the 100th anniversary of the Republic could not be realized. Products that were announced to have been discounted have received price hikes again.

The 2-liter olive oil, which was sold for 350 TL before Erdoğan's call, never received a discount, and in the week that followed, its price increased by 14 percent to 350 TL. During the same period, 525 grams of cheese, which was sold for 114 TL, is now sold for 127.50 TL.

Beans, which were sold for 39.50 TL, also did not receive a discount. However, they are sold for 44.90 TL in the same market today. Wheat flour, which was sold for 69.90 TL before the discount call, also saw no discount and was hiked to be sold for 73.90 TL today.

Pasta, which was sold for 15 TL and dropped to 14.50 TL with the discount call, is back to 15 TL today. 1 liter of milk, which was sold for 20.90 TL and dropped to 20.40 TL with the call, underwent a packaging change and rose to 23.50 TL today.

"WITHOUT LOWERING PRODUCTION COSTS, SHELF PRICES WILL NOT FALL"

Stating that the solution to prices should be sought in the field rather than on the shelf, Chamber of Agricultural Engineers President Baki Remzi Suiçmez said, "Without lowering production costs, shelf prices will not fall. Price increases cannot be prevented by instruction. It is necessary to lower production costs and shorten the supply chain. How will prices fall while the burden of VAT and SCT on diesel fuel remains on the shoulders of farmers and supports are defeated by inflation? The total budget for agricultural support is being increased by 44 percent in 2024. However, it is known that inflation will rise to 75 percent."
