Europeans spent over 10 billion euros on coffee imports last year
The European Union imported 2.7 million tons of coffee in 2023, spending 10.6 billion euros. While the largest volume of coffee was imported from Brazil, Germany and Italy ranked among the largest importers.
European Union (EU) member countries imported 10.6 billion euros worth of coffee last year.
The European Statistical Office (Eurostat) released data on the 2023 coffee imports of the 27 member countries to mark October 1, International Coffee Day.
According to the data, EU member countries paid a total of 10.6 billion euros for the import of 2.7 million tons of coffee last year.
Brazil took the top spot in the EU's coffee imports with 922 thousand tons. Brazil was followed by Vietnam with 652 thousand tons, Uganda with 206 thousand tons, Honduras with 169 thousand tons, India with 118 thousand tons, Colombia with 113 thousand tons, Peru with 83 thousand tons, and Indonesia with 68 thousand tons.
During this period, Germany imported 911 thousand tons, Italy 625 thousand tons, Belgium 278 thousand tons, Spain 249 thousand tons, and France 184 thousand tons of coffee.
On the other hand, EU countries produced 2.3 million tons of roasted coffee with a total value of 13 billion euros in 2023.
