Expert outlines the dangers awaiting retirees in 2026

Prof. Dr. Aziz Çelik, known for his expertise on working life, has issued warnings regarding the economic developments awaiting retirees and civil servants as 2026 approaches. In his statement, Çelik noted that the effects of austerity policies will be felt even more strongly by these groups in the coming year.

Stating that the tight fiscal policies implemented by the economic administration and the government in 2025 will continue for retirees and civil servants following the minimum wage, Prof. Dr. Çelik shared his various predictions. It is stated that salary increases in the upcoming period will largely remain limited to official inflation figures.

"What awaits retirees and civil servants at the beginning of the year?

After the minimum wage imposition, it is the turn of retirees and civil servants!

My predictions are unfortunately as follows:

1-Austerity policy will continue at full speed! They will not give a single penny of increase beyond official inflation!

2-No improvements will be made for retirees and civil servants beyond official inflation.

3-Workers and Bağ-Kur retirees will receive an approximately 12 percent raise in January 2026.

4-The lowest pension (if the government makes a legal regulation) will be approximately 18 thousand 900 TL.

5-The average pension will be approximately 23 thousand 500 TL.

6-Civil servants and civil servant retirees will receive an approximately 18.4 percent raise due to the inflation difference!

7-In short, not a single penny of increase will be given to retirees and civil servants beyond official inflation.

Note: These rates and amounts are estimates and are based on the assumption that the official inflation for the last 6 months of 2025 will be 12 percent."
