Fake retirement alarm: Are 1 million people at risk?
Labor Minister Vedat Işıkhan's statements regarding fake retirements have created a stir. Those whose retirements are canceled are being asked to repay 10 years of backdated pension payments plus interest.
The Social Security Institution (SGK) has taken action to combat fake retirements. The retirements of those who obtained them through fraudulent divorces or fake insurance records are being canceled. If the SGK's notification of irregularity is finalized, those whose retirements are canceled are required to repay the pensions they have received.
Payments made to individuals who retired fraudulently are being demanded back for up to 10 years, along with interest. The SGK is also filing criminal complaints due to the illegal transactions.
STATEMENT ON FAKE RETIREMENTS FROM MINISTER IŞIKHAN
Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan, in a live broadcast he attended recently, stated regarding fake retirements that they conducted nearly 1 million risk-based audits last year. Işıkhan said, "In investigations conducted solely on fraudulent divorces, it was determined that 9,000 people were receiving orphan's pensions through fake divorces. We have initiated proceedings to recover the amounts paid to 7,400 of them with interest and have filed criminal complaints with the prosecutor's office."
WILL GRADUAL RETIREMENT BE INTRODUCED?
Following the EYT (Retirement Age Regulation), those who want to retire are looking toward gradual retirement. While the question of whether a gradual retirement regulation will be introduced is being followed, SGK Expert Özgür Erdursun, who participated in the Para Politika program on SÖZCÜ TV, answered the question of whether gradual retirement will come by saying, "Currently, the AK Party regrets passing the EYT law. If the EYT had not been passed, there would have been a social explosion in Turkey. The AK Party has regrets. The situation is difficult for those waiting for gradual retirement."

Erdursun used the following expressions:
I do not think there will be any development regarding gradual retirement between 2025 and 2027. If the government's votes drop significantly while heading toward an election and there is panic, perhaps something could be done. I do not expect gradual retirement in the short term during this period. The government is currently not pursuing any policy that would result in money leaving its coffers.
