Family Support Payments are a burden on the treasury! Were the payments cut without President Erdoğan's knowledge?

The Turkey Family Support Program, launched in 2022 with the approval of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, aims to provide social assistance to households in need. This program, which was planned to be implemented for a period of 12 months, had been extended until the end of 2024. To date, a total of 106.8 billion TL has been paid to households.

IS THERE AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT REGARDING 2025 FAMILY SUPPORT PAYMENTS?

Following the disbursement of the December 2024 payments, no statement has yet been made regarding whether the program will continue in 2025. Beneficiaries are eagerly awaiting announcements from the Ministry of Family and Social Services. There is no clear information as to whether payments will be made in January.

HOW MUCH WERE THE FAMILY SUPPORT PAYMENTS?

The Ministry of Family and Social Services regulates payments based on the income status of households. The payment amounts applied throughout 2024 were as follows:

Income of 450 TL and below: 1,250 TL per month

Income between 450 TL - 911.15 TL: 1,100 TL per month

Income between 911.15 TL - 1,372.30 TL: 950 TL per month

Income between 1,372.30 TL - 5,667.37 TL: 850 TL per month

FINAL PAYMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE

With the payments made in December 2024, the aid provided to beneficiaries under the program was deposited into their accounts. A portion of this aid was announced as 3.6 billion TL.

IS AN EXTENSION OF THE PROGRAM EXPECTED?

Since the Turkey Family Support Program is an important social assistance mechanism for households in need, there are demands for it to continue in 2025.

However, decisions regarding the continuation of social assistance programs will be made based on the evaluations of the Presidency and the relevant ministries.

Announcements regarding the future of the program will be made by the Ministry of Family and Social Services.

According to the report in Cumhuriyet, it is alleged that Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, who cut the support of up to 1,250 TL provided to families, made this decision without the knowledge of President Erdoğan.

It was reported that he argued that the payments were a burden on the Treasury.
