Fed releases Financial Stability Report: Inflation, Monetary Policy...

The U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) has released the April edition of its Financial Stability Report, which includes assessments of the current state of the American financial system.

The report noted that the effects of stubborn inflation and tight monetary policy remain the most frequently cited risks among market participants.

Stating that the majority of market participants believe a resurgence in inflation could keep interest rates higher for longer than expected, the report included the following statement: "The risk that persistent inflationary pressures could lead to a more restrictive monetary policy stance than expected remained the most frequently cited risk."

NOVEMBER ELECTIONS ALSO MENTIONED

The report also noted that approximately two-thirds of participants view policy uncertainty as a risk, highlighting several areas of uncertainty, including trade policy and other foreign policy issues related to rising geopolitical tensions. The report also mentioned policy uncertainty regarding the U.S. presidential elections to be held in November.

In its report, the Fed stated that conflicts in the Middle East and Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine pose risks to global economic activity, including the possibility of continued disruptions to energy and commodity markets and global value chains.

The report indicated that a further increase in geopolitical tensions or policy uncertainty could reduce economic activity, which it stated could increase inflation and volatility in financial markets.
