First comment from Özgür Demirtaş on the pension hike decision
Appearing before the cameras following the Cabinet Meeting, AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan announced the rate of the hike to be applied to retirees. The first comment on this hike rate came from economist Özgür Demirtaş.
AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan announced that a 5 percent additional hike would be applied to SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees, bringing the total hike to 42.6 percent.
Erdoğan also announced that the lower limit for pension payments has been increased from 7,500 liras to 10,000 liras.
Following this increase, economist Özgür Demirtaş commented on the pension hike rate on his social media account.
Criticizing the government's economic policies in his post and attributing the current situation to the excessive reduction of interest rates, Demirtaş wrote the following:
"May God give patience to the retirees…
The country is forcing people to learn Economics and Finance.
Do you understand now what the Turkey Economic Model, which lowered interest rates more than necessary, has led to?
I officially begged for months not to do it…"
