First small investors, now the barons! 20,904 more people have withdrawn from the stock market

It is observed that the large investor group is also exiting the stock market, which has seen a decline in the number of investors recently.

21 THOUSAND INVESTORS EXITED

According to Central Securities Depository (MKK) data, the number of large investors with portfolios over 1 million TL, who hold 80 percent of the portfolio managed in the stock market, fell to 186,632 as of December 2023. 

In November, the number of these investors was 207,536. Thus, it was observed that approximately 21 thousand large investors exited the stock market in December.

The number of large investors with portfolios over 1 million TL had reached a record level of 217,728 in September 2023.

The interest of large investors in the stock market began in the latter part of 2022. In November 2022, the number of large investors exceeded the 100 thousand threshold for the first time. At the beginning of 2020, there were only 13,964 large investors in the stock market. When evaluating these data, it is also necessary to take the inflationary environment into account. In an environment where inflation is running high, the 1 million TL threshold has become a threshold that can be more easily crossed for many investors.

PORTFOLIO VALUE ALSO FELL

While the number of large investors showed a decrease, it was observed that the value of the portfolios they manage also declined. According to MKK data, the portfolio managed by investors with portfolios over 1 million TL fell to 3.74 trillion TL as of December. In November, the portfolio size of large investors was recorded at 3.95 trillion TL.

The record level in the portfolio size of large investors was observed in September 2023 at 4.26 trillion TL.
