Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey Governor Hafize Gaye Erkan had said in an interview with Ahmet Hakan, Editor-in-Chief of the Hürriyet newspaper, known for its proximity to the government, "We couldn't find a house in Istanbul. It's incredibly expensive. We moved in with my parents, we are staying with them."
These remarks by Erkan, who has a monthly gross salary of 161 thousand TL excluding additional payments, sparked debates in the public eye.

A striking claim has been made about Erkan, who complained that house rents in Istanbul are very expensive and announced that she was staying with her mother.
'SHE BOUGHT A SEAFRONT VILLA' CLAIM
According to the report by Yaşar Anter from Sözcü, it has emerged that Erkan purchased a seafront villa at the Swissotel Residences in Turgutreis, Bodrum, 2 years ago by paying 1.3 million Euros.
Real estate agents stated that the area where Central Bank Governor Erkan's villa is located has appreciated significantly in value recently, and a similar villa could find buyers for between 2 and 3 million Euros today, depending on its location.
Daily rentals for villas within the facility, which is 22 kilometers from Bodrum city center and 55 kilometers from Milas-Bodrum Airport, range from 200 Euros to 1000 Euros. Rentals are made online through Turkey's leading tourism companies.
SHE GAVE IT HER SON'S NAME
Central Bank Governor Erkan gave the seafront villa in Turgutreis, Bodrum, the name of her son, Aslan Selim. Opposite the villa are the touristy Çatal Island and Topal Island at the westernmost tip of the Aegean, as well as the Greek islands of Kalymnos, Leros, and Pserimos.
