Following retirees, faculty members continue their wait: Will equal pay for equal work be implemented?
In 2020, the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) implemented a policy to "equalize the salaries of academic staff working at state and foundation universities." However, the salary increase for foundation university faculty members remains uncertain.

With the announcement of June inflation, civil servant salaries were also determined.
Retirees receiving 10 thousand liras due to their base salary did not receive a raise.
While retirees are waiting for news of a flat-rate raise, another report has come from faculty members at foundation universities.
Demanding "equal pay for equal work," faculty members at foundation universities are waiting for their July salary increase rates to be determined.
YÖK HAD EQUALIZED
With the amendment made to the Higher Education Law No. 2547 on April 17, 2020, the salaries of academic staff working at state and foundation universities were equalized.
However, despite the decision, many universities either do not implement the salary equalization or choose to keep the net salary paid to academic staff low by equalizing based on gross salary.
UNCERTAINTY CONTINUES
Speaking to 12punto, foundation university faculty members confirmed that the uncertainty continues, stating that the raise rates have not been determined and they have not been provided with any information.
Furthermore, university staff reported that while they received improvements in their salaries alongside the interim raise for the minimum wage, they have not received information regarding their July salaries and their hopes for a raise are fading.
A research assistant who received a salary of 47 thousand 386 liras in January 2024 should receive a July salary of 56 thousand 536 liras. If the raise does not materialize, there will be a 19.3 percent loss in the employees' salaries.
